Earth Day and Arbor Day
One of my fondest memories as a child was spending time with my Dad in the garden. During the mild winters, leaves were collected and tilled into the soil of our acre garden. In the cold of January he studied seed catalogs and planned what vegetables would go where. By this time in the spring, he would have prepared the soil with last year’s compost and be laying out the rows to recieve baby plants and seeds. Harvesting went on all summer and he kept my Mother well supplied with fruits and vegetables for canning and preserving.
I don’t recall either of them specifically celebrating Earth Day, because our lives were deeply rooted in caring for and nurishing the earth throughout the year.
What ever the weather this weekend, take some time to spend with your children. Put on some old clothes and get a little dirty by planting a tree, or helping your child bury some seeds in a flower pot.
At Kidoodles by Kim I hope to support the joy of families and help you find new ways to enjoy your children. This weekend is a perfect opportunity for you to honor the Earth, enjoy your children, and have a wonderful Earth Day.
Loving the kids,
Kim
